I enjoy the majority of Emins work, both through its mixed media approach and her ability to use a range of materials, but also for its raw confessions and approach to her personal life. The way in which her as woman is portrayed as an honest human being who has insecurities and flaws is powerful and inspiring to me. Her work is tense and full of angst which gives it a raw and aggressive nature at times, another element that i can appreciate. I feel a connection and familiarity to her views and the way she portrays herself.
The piece above is a statement to her critics saying essentially she has money falling out of her and due to the sexual reflection in a lot of her work, hence why the money is surrounding her intimate areas. She sits with her legs wide apart and huddling the cash. Personally It reminds me of the moment in childbirth where you are passed your new born child. In some ways this financial birth is a description of how well she has done from her work regardless of its raw and unbridled sense of expression which a lot of critics were uncomfortable with.
