Resolved piece

This image was taken whilst looking through my piece strung up in the studio space. Viewers were encouraged to enter the room on opposing sides of the piece and view each other through this layer of images. Metaphorically this symbolises the way in which we construct a barrier of outside appearances in order to protect and separate us from others and protect ourselves internally from criticism. The transparency of the material reflects the way in which these barriers are constructed from something shallow and essentially people can see through them when they look.

For this image I used red filters on a torch to light the space as though part of the "red light district" this essentially created a space that was clearly referencing sex and added to the sense of tension in the room. 

The images below show the walls of the studio space when my piece has been projected onto them. Using light and cast shadows the walls become multidimensional and the space develops a higher impact. Through this approach I have moved away from the standard "white-cube" gallery space and incorporated the architecture into the piece. 

By projecting these images around the space I made an inhabitable space that surrounded the audience with images concerned with self worth, sexual objectification and body obsessions etc. By the audience entering the space they allow themselves to be engulfed by the images and some of the cast pictures could be seen upon the audience themselves as they interfered with the projections. The way in which my installation consumed the viewer encouraged them to consider the way in which we essentially cloak ourselves with an external image.
