The Red Shoes
Lecture Notes:
- Consider gender
- Think about the technicalities
- Artistic realities of time and place
- What other films does it comment on?
- Is it self referential etc
- Consider use of colour
This film was one of the first colour films, I feel that this new ability in film work may have been utilised more fully by the use of Vicky Page and her fiery red hair, her red lips and of course by the most obvious feature in the film, the red shoes.
Dali is referenced throughout and the use of colour is vital in these references such as when the ballerina, miss page is dancing in the red shoes and the scenery changes, especially i thought when the red and orange swirls of sea or lava like forms that surrounds her as she dances on an isolated rock which creates a sort of pedestal. Also by the cameras ability to record colour we see more clearly the constructed versus reality in terms of set design and scene features.
Below: Pages from notebook, personal notes on lecture recorded above, points I found interesting etc.
